SAFETY OF PEDESTRIANS – FOCUS ON PUPILS AND STUDENTS

The action of installing new traffic signalization in Palilula municipality aiming at reducing traffic accidents at pedestrian crossings and in the nearness of schools. Last week, at three locations in municipality modern traffic equipment was installed. It is about new generation of changeable traffic lights designed according to European standards with LED diods and solar power which visuality in bright sun light is on 250 m.

Palilula Municipality in its Strategy of development gives the specific priority to activities on improving life quality of the people living in all municipal parts. Taking into account the situation at the terrain, solving problems and meeting with the people these all became practice in the work of authorities of this organization of local self government of the City of Nis. During the recent period for these purposes from Municipal budget was dedicated more than 2,5 million dinars. On this occasion, the president of Palilula Municipality, PhD Igor Novakovic, Milan Djurdjevic, president of Palilula Assembly and Milos Stojkovic, member of Municipal Council, visited one of the locations with new traffic signalization – pedestrian approaches in street `Vojvode Putnika` (sport hall `Kralj Petar Prvi`). Here is placed one bigger (both sided) traffic sign with led diodes and the other sign is set above the traffic road (on the construction) and is a warning sign for all the participants in traffic near schools. This traffic sign has non stop light information `school near` and `limiting speed on 30 km during the classes hours. When the pupils come and go back from school the traffic lights are programmed to inform the participants in traffic about the nearness of school and is on 50 km/hour. Two signs of warning (sign-nearness of school and sign – information about the speed limiting on 30 km or 50km/h) is of new generations with led diodes of high visuality and is installed also near Branko Miljkovic school – one in Ljubomira Nikolica street and the other one in Marina Drzica street, at traffic light at the corner of the streets.

According to the words of PhD Igor Novakovic, with installing LED traffic signalizations, it will be continued also in the other Palilula parts. With improving traffic infrastructure and signalization, we will significantly contribute to traffic safety in Palilula. We do not want that people life depend on procedures and good will of the individuals in the City and authorized public – communal enterprises that will, according to certain rules, last long and for sure slow down our development.
